La Volandera

A Volandera (flywheel) is a leather ring that horse carriages carry on the wheel hub and which, being insignificant, has the function of avoiding friction, and allows things to go smoothly.

This is the little story of the name of La Volandera. (March 8, 2002)

Story

LA VOLANDERA was born as a dream of CREATING a PROJECT, a BEAUTIFUL AND NATURAL SPACE to enjoy the PLEASURE of LIVING IN THE FIELD and SHARE IT with others. For this reason, my parents bought this farm more than 20 years ago, at that time a farm with a fig tree, a lemon tree and a fallen house.

Soon after, in a fluid way, the possibility arose for my father and I to take a course in Permaculture. That course, in addition to meeting very important people in our lives, was the beginning of the entire project. Together we design and plan the basic structure of what is now La Volandera.

Then many hours of dedicated work and care would come, planting and caring for trees, preparing the land, improving the COTTAGE, the facilities … in winter, in summer and start over …. many of them in the company of friends willing to help out.

Little by little, the place was gaining beauty and strength and again in a fluid way, an interest in this space began to be created for workshops and courses.

In 2017, we decided to take another step that would allow us to sustain and enhance everything La Volandera can offer, creating jobs and wealth in rural areas.
